Each year the National Trust for Historic Preservation recognizes organizations for their dedicated work in preserving and operating historic sites at the National Preservation Conference. For historic sites that operate primarily with an educational mission (e.g, historic house museum), you may be eligible for the Trustee Emeritus Award for Excellence in the Stewardship of Historic Sites. This award recognizes sustained excellence by a nonprofit organization or government agency in the preservation, management and interpretation of one or more historic sites. If your organization (or someone else) is doing an outstanding job, we welcome your nomination.
The award recognizes achievement over a period of at least 25 years in any one or more of the following areas:
- Promoting preservation through unique and effective programming
- Preservation and maintenance of historic structures and landscapes
- Interpretation and education programming for the public
- Excellence in general or fiscal management, especially in challenging situations
We invite you to nominate a deserving organization or agency for this national preservation award. The deadline is March 1, 2008. Those nominations not selected to receive a Trustees Award are automatically considered for an Honor Award.
Recent awardees include the Mount Auburn Cemetery (Cambridge & Watertown, MA), Western Pennsylvania Conservancy for Fallingwater (Pittsburgh, PA), Historic New England (Boston, MA), Minnesota Historical Society (St. Paul, MN), Central City Opera House Association (Denver, CO), and the Ladies’ Hermitage Association for Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage (Nashville, TN).
We often receive nominations from a for-profit corporation (e.g., an architectural firm) for a single project (e.g. restoration of a building), however, these submissions are not eligible for this particular award. Instead, apply to other categories in the national preservation awards program. National Trust Historic Sites are not eligible to participate.
