Tenement Museum adding Evening Tours

This year, the Lower East Side Tenement Museum, a National Trust Historic Site in New York City, has seen an overwhelming growth in attendance—March 2008 was the third-busiest month in the museum’s 20 year history. So from May 1 to October 30, the Tenement Museum will stay open late on Thursdays for tours at 5:45, 6:30, and 7:15 pm and the Museum Shop extends its Thursday hours to 8:30 pm. By adding evening tours, the museum will give visitors the chance to enjoy a truly remarkable piece of the city’s history while avoiding the hustle and bustle of the weekend.

The Tenement Museum has also partnered with local bars and restaurants to offer special discounts and freebies to Twilight Thursdays visitors. Enjoy 10 percent off drinks at Café Katja, a free glass of wine with dinner at The Ten Bells, or 20 percent off your slice at Two Boots Pizza.

Visitors are encouraged to make advance reservations online at www.tenement.org or by calling (866) 811-4111. A tour is $17 for adults, $13 for students or seniors. If you’re a Lower East Side resident, it gets even better. For the first time, local residents receive $5 off any Twilight Thursday tour. Just show ID or other proof of residence when you purchase your ticket and you’re free to spend that $5 on a special Twilight Cosmo at Fontana’s Bar instead!
