Villa Finale, a National Trust Historic Site under development in San Antonio, Texas, recently launched a blog at villafinale.wordpress.com to keep the community apprised of its work prior to opening in 2009. You’ll read postings from several different staff members about preservation, collections, local history, and programs.
If you haven’t noticed, all the blogs at National Trust Historic Sites are posted along the right side as part of the Blogroll. Lincoln’s Cottage and Montpelier Restoration are the most active, and Montpelier now includes short videos via YouTube on the restoration work (ever want to learn how distemper paint is made and applied—or even what it is?).
Talking about YouTube, the National Trust has its launched a PreservationNation “channel” on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/preservationnation, which includes videos from the National Trust as well as those submitted by friends and supporters across the nation. It currently features a video produced by the History Channel on the 11 Most Endangered but you’ll also find others on the threats to Nine Mile Canyon, interviews with Richard Moe (our president), the preservation of the Union 76 Ball at gas stations in southern California, and a playlist devoted exclusively to This Place Matters (which, by the way, is a cheap and easy way to promote your favorite historic site and historic house museum to the nation).
