Please welcome Duane Hill as the new Buildings & Grounds Superintendent for Woodlawn and Pope-Leighey House, two National Trust Historic Sites near Mt. Vernon, Virginia. Director Laurie Ossman stated that Duane was selected among several candidates because his “knowledge, proven dedication to historic sites and enthusiasm will be outstanding contributions to the success of Woodlawn and the Pope-Leighey House as we move forward with plans for restoration and new initiatives.” Duane will join the staff after the Buildings and Grounds Conference in September.
Duane has been the Buildings Maintenance Tenhnician at Brucemore, a National Trust Historic Site in Iowa, since 2001. He was responsible for the custodial and general maintenance duties of all buildings; inventory and purchasing of common supplies; vendor and contractor bids and supervision; restoration projects; event and special property use logistics, setup, and teardown; exhibit preparation, installation and storage; monitoring and updating fire and security systems; and building and equipment preventive maintenance inspections. He was previously employed at the Hawkeye Community Action Program and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, Camp Courageous, and the Iowa Gen Web.
