Historic sites often make a community a great place to live and work but often no one knows about your contributions. But here’s a great opportunity: nominate your town as one of a Dozen Distinctive Destinations in 2010, and if selected, you’ll bring national attention to your community.
The Dozen Distinctive Destinations program recognizes unique cities and towns across America that are working to preserve their historic character, promote heritage tourism, enhance their community and encourage others to enjoy all they have to offer. Every year since 2000, the National Trust for Historic Preservation has selected 12 destinations that offer an authentic visitor experience by combining dynamic downtowns, diverse cultural activities, attractive architecture and a strong commitment to historic preservation, sustainability and revitalization. So far, National Trust Historic Sites benefiting from this program include:
- Cooper-Molera Adobe in Monterey, California (2006)
- Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio in Oak Park, Illinois (2005)
- Hotel de Paris Museum in Georgetown, Colorado (2003)
- Touro Synagogue in Newport, Rhode Island (2004)
Nomination forms are now available and are due on September 1, 2009. Learn more at www.PreservationNation.org/ddd.
