Staff at National Trust Historic Sites and National Trust Headquarters occasionally are approached with a request to provide appraisal assistance for collections or potential donations. Because of IRS regulations, National Trust for Historic Preservation staff are not able to provide appraisals to donors. Donors needing to establish a value for tax purposes must obtain such appraisals from outside, independent sources.
The following organizations can be contacted to locate qualified appraisers. Each website provides the capability to search for an appraiser by geographic area, category of collection, or both:

American Society of Appraisers
International Society of Appraisers
Also, if requestors find an appraiser in their local area through other means, they may find it helpful to ask the appraiser if s/he is accredited with, or a member of, the AAA, ISA or ASA. This may provide the requestor assurance about the professional capabilities of the appraiser.
