Funding

The National Trust for Historic Preservation manages several grant programs that will be of particular interest to National Trust Historic Sites:

  • Historic Sites Fund (for buildings, landscapes, collections, and archaeology projects exclusively at National Trust Historic Sites. Managed by the Historic Sites Department; on-line materials forthcoming.)
  • Interpretation and Education Fund (for grants up to $10,000 for education, marketing, and interpretation projects exclusively at National Trust Historic Sites. Managed by the Historic Sites Department.) This page is protected by password.
  • Favrot Fund for Historic Preservation (for grants ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 for projects that contribute to the preservation or the recapture of an authentic sense of place. Only National Historic Landmarks are eligible (most National Trust Historic Sites are NHLs). Funds may be used for professional advice, conferences, workshops and education programs. Managed by the Preservation Services Department; to apply and more details, contact the NTHP Regional Office nearest you.)
  • Mitchell Fund for Historic Interiors (for grants ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 to assist in the preservation, restoration, and interpretation of historic interiors. Only National Historic Landmarks are eligible (most National Trust Historic Sites are NHLs). Funds may be used for professional expertise, print and video communications materials, and education programs. Managed by the Preservation Services Department; to apply and more details, contact the NTHP Regional Office nearest you.)

National Trust Historic Sites are not eligible for funding through the National Trust Preservation Fund (matching grants for preservation planning and educational efforts) or Partnership-in-Scholarship Fund (collaborative projects between African American Historic Places and college/university scholars).

If you are not a National Trust Historic Site (that’s not the same as listing on the National Register of Historic Places or recognition as a National Historic Landmark), you will find funding sources at www.PreservationNation.org. To avoid confusion, some pages of this section are password protected and available only to staff at National Trust Historic Sites. Passwords are included in the emails inviting applications and also available from Susannah Rast in the Historic Sites department of the National Trust.

This page has the following sub pages.
