Conservation of National Trust-owned collections at National Trust Historic Sites
Some excellent resources relating to care and conservation of museum collections include:
- Chicora Foundation – Preservation Links
- Conservation Online (CoOL)
- Getty Conservation Institute Newsletters
- National Park Service Conserv-o-grams
- Regional Alliance for Preservation
- Smithsonian Conservation Institute
Some of your Site’s museum collections may need a specialist’s level of cleaning, care, or treatment. The AIC (American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works) is a wonderful resource for locating a conservator in your geographic area: http://aic.stanford.edu/
If conservation treatment is needed for National Trust-owned collections, please fill out the Conservation Work Request Form . Please attach any conservation assessments and/or treatment proposals that you may have already received. The Director of Museum Collections will help you prepare the appropriate paperwork. Contracts generally are required for conservation work, and multiple bids may be required.
If there has been an accident or damage to a collections object, please see the Insurance section.
If you have any questions about the procedure or form listed above, please contact Terri Anderson, the John & Neville Bryan Director of Museum Collections at the National Trust for Historic Preservation, 202-588-6232 or terri_anderson@nthp.org . Please fax forms to 202-588-6232 .
